Former Southern Goods Chef Lyle Bento Will Take Over Star Fish and Pi Pizza

— Lyle Bento, the chef who formerly helmed now-shuttered restaurant Southern Goods, has taken a new gig as culinary director for Sambrooks Management Company. The ownership group from The Pit Room’s Michael Sambrooks purchased Star Fish, Lee’s Fried Chicken, and Pi Pizza, from Cherry Pie Hospitality earlier this year, and now Bento will oversee the revamp of menus at all three restaurants. Before taking this gig, Bento had returned to Underbelly Hospitality in July to oversee its catering operations. [EaterWire]

— On Thursday, a Harris County jury convicted Terry Thompson of murder for his role in the strangulation of a man named John Hernandez outside of a Crosby-area location of Denny’s in May 2017. It’s the second trial for Thompson, who faces life in prison, after a a hung jury resulted in a mistrial earlier this year. Thompson’s wife Chauna Thompson, a former Harris County sheriff’s deputy, is also charged for her role in the crime. [Houston Public Media]

— Over the weekend, actor Adam Sandler stopped by Americas Restaurant in River Oaks for brunch, and apparently he’s a fan. The restaurant posted a photo of Sandler to its Instagram account, but did not dish on what the actor ate while visiting Space City. [Chron]
