League City’s Southern Boi Cafe has closed its doors less than a month after opening them in January.

The restaurant announced its departure on Facebook, but didn’t cite why exactly Southern Boi Cafe would be closing its doors so abruptly. “It is with the saddest heart that we have to announce that Southern BOI Cafe is closed permanently,” reads the restaurant’s farewell post. “We thank everyone who supported us on this short but incredible journey. We hope y’all loved the food as much as we loved y’all.”

Southern Boi Cafe made its debut on January 17, and quickly earned praise from local diners for its menu of largely locally-sourced fare, featuring dishes like deviled eggs, chicken fried steak, and gumbo. That early acclaim is probably why so many of the restaurant’s Facebook fans were shocked at its closure, including the mother of one employee who had reportedly received a text message that the restaurant was closing five minutes before the announcement was made public.

Eater has reached out to Southern Boi Cafe’s owners for more details on this shutter. Stay tuned.
