Earlier this week, a petty thief brazenly stole a tip jar from Killen’s Barbecue in Pearland.
The restaurant posted a clip of its surveillance footage on Facebook, which shows a white male in his late 50s or early 60s casually chatting on the phone near the cashier’s counter. He then walks toward the register, grabs the tip jar and shoves it under his shirt before quickly departing the restaurant.
The video has gotten well over a million views on Facebook and over 500 shares, with hundreds of commenters expressing outrage at the brazenness of the theft. Killen’s director of operation Graham Laborde says there was probably about $100 in the jar when it was taken. “It’s less about the quantity as far as monetary value, and more about the principle and how audacious this man was to steal a tip jar in the middle of a crowded restaurant,” Laborde told Eater.
The man in the video has not yet been identified, at least publicly. See below for a video of the thief in action.
