Chain restaurants have long been invading Houston, and now a new pair of fast-casual Indian spots are planning to enter the fray.

A Facebook post for Kumar’s indicates that it will open its doors at 8383 Westheimer Road in a space that once housed Fadi’s Mediterranean Grill. The fledgling chain currently operates locations in Plano and Austin, where it serves up curries, biryani, and Southern Indian bread dishes like mutta dosai and kothu parotta. At lunch on the weekends, the restaurant is known for its unlimited buffet of dishes served on banana leaves. A Houston location has been in the works since late 2017, but it appears that a post-Hurricane Harvey construction permit backlog has delayed its arrival.

Also opening in Houston not too far away from Kumar’s is Godavari, also a South Indian restaurant that operates outposts across the country. It will set up shop at 8092 Westheimer, bringing an extensive menu of vegetarian-friendly fare (think cauliflower fritters, palak paneer aloo gobi, and paneer butter masala), meaty curries, and more. Godavari will also have its own tandoori oven, where whole fish, chicken, and kebabs will be grilled.

No opening timeline for either Kumar’s or Godavari has been announced just yet. Stay tuned for more details.
