Beard Papa’s, a Japanese chain known for its cream puffs, will open its first Houston-area location at Katy Asian Town.

A Facebook page for the chain’s forthcoming Katy outpost indicates that it will open its doors at 23119 Colonial Parkway, joining an exciting line-up of Asian restaurants and sweet shops that will soon open or have already in the development. Founded in 1999, Beard Papa’s has since expanded to more than 250 locations in Japan and another 300 outposts across the globe, including California, New York, and Massachusetts.

The massive chain is known for its custard-filled cream puffs, in flavors like green tea, chocolate, and honey butter. Cream-stuffed eclairs are also on offer, along with a mini puffs and Paris-Brest, a round, filled pastry sprinkled with powdered sugar. Apparently, Anthony Bourdain is a fan of Beard Papa’s — the chef recently posted an Instagram video from one of the chain’s airport locations, dubbing it “righteous.”

At Katy Asian Town, Beard Papa’s will join a host of exciting eateries, including a Korean barbecue restaurant, a suburban outpost of James Beard Award-nominated restaurant Mala Sichuan Bistro, and Taiwanese boba tea chain Sharetea. As this stellar line-up of restaurants continues to arrive, along with the equally compelling Katy Grand development nearby, Katy will definitely become one of the suburbs’ most happening dining destinations.

Beard Papa’s has not announced an official opening date. Stay tuned for more details.
