In the coming months, Steel City Pops and Sixty Vines will join the growing line-up of restaurants and shops in Rice Village.
Steel City Pops, a gourmet popsicle retailer with more than 20 locations across the South, will debut its gluten-free fruit and cream-based pops at 2565 Amherst St this summer, just in time for Houston’s hottest weather of the year. The shop’s chilly treats, already available at one location in Space City, have quickly earned the Birmingham, Alabama-based chain a loyal following in Texas.
Also en route is Sixty Vines, a Dallas-based wine bar known for its vino on tap, pizzas, and shareable appetizers. This is Sixty Vines’ first Houston outpost, which will be located in the space formerly occupied by Gymboree at 2540 University Blvd. The the upper level space will undergo a complete revamp, transforming it into a 9,000 square-foot, multi-level restaurant. Once completed, it’ll offer an “amazing view” of the Medical City skyline, according to a press release.
These two new arrivals join Hopdoddy Burger Bar, Shake Shack, and SusieCakes at Rice Village, all relatively new additions to the neighborhood. Rice Village is booming right now, thanks in large part to the redevelopment and beautifying of Amherst Street, with its new outdoor seating, public art, wider sidewalks, and more parking.
Steel City Pops is set to debut at Rice Village in late summer, but no official opening date has been announced just yet. Sixty Vines is expected to follow in early 2019.
