Bernie’s Burger Bus is set to debut its fourth location in Missouri City in January.
Owner Justin Turner told CultureMap he was approached by the new landlord of the complex at 6324 Hwy 6 and was asked to anchor the soon-to-be-revamped project. “This is not something we were looking for... the landlord is a big fan of ours,” Turner told the publication.
This news comes just a month after Bernie’s made headlines for shorting its employees overtime wages, a mistake that Turner was already aware of and in the midst of correcting when he was investigated by the Department of Labor.
Located in a former Pollo Loco space, Bernie’s first free-standing outpost will have a patio and counter service as opposed to full wait staff, and will also offer the chain’s first drive-thru. It plans to cater to the Sugar Land and Missouri City communities with more efficient kitchen processes, including separate cook lines to service both in-house and drive-thru diners.
Bernie’s is melding the most convenient aspects of fast food with the added benefit of a carhop service. To-go customers can place orders via the website, and once they arrive at the restaurant for pickup, will reply to a confirmation text with their parking spot number. An employee will run the food out to them.
Diners can look forward to the same school-themed offerings found at Bernie’s other locations like the Cheerleader burger with pepper jack cheese, crispy jalapeños, slow roasted garlic tomatoes, and jalapeño ranch, plus a larger selection of frozen cocktails (six in all) and 12 beers on draft.
