As board game culture continues to rise in popularity, another board game drinking den, Board and Brew Gaming, plans to open soon in north Houston.
The industrial space at 5750 North Sam Houston Pkwy E, Suite 515 is full of “terrains” for gamers and boasts hundreds of games and a small bar area from which it’ll serve up eight local craft beers on tap. Plus, Board and Brew will also have a fridge for its “beer exchange” program, whereby guests of the establishment can bring in their favorite brews and swap them out for beers in the fridge, so patrons can sample a broad array of brews.
A catalogue of hundreds of games will offer titles like Settlers of Catan, Risk, Pandemic, and Cards Against Humanity. The library will be updated frequently, plus “game coaches” will be on hand “to help newcomers find new games based on their likes and dislikes,” says Jimmy Garrett, one of the bar’s owners. “There are literally games for every genre and skill level.”
Garrett says Board and Brew was originally a hobby project devoted to blogging and making videos about beer and gaming, however he and his partners decided to turn it into a brick-and-mortar when they saw the response from the community. “People were really interested and asking if they could hang out here,” Garrett says.
While Board and Brew won’t fully open until September, Garrett tells Eater it’s almost ready to open for “beta testing” and is looking to hire some staff. During the beta testing phase beginning mid-July, Board and Brew will hand-select people to invite from its community of Facebook followers. Weekly themed events like “learn to play Settlers of Catan,” will increase in frequency as Board and Brew approaches the September opening.
When it does open, hours of operation will be Monday through Thursday 4 to 11 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to midnight; Sunday tbd. Stay tuned for an official opening date.
SAGA night at BBG! Tons of Vikings in the house, some Anglo-Danes and pesky Irish. We moved the terrain downstairs to be closer to the beer.
