Mama Ninfa’s Brings Tacos and Tortas to Downtown Food Hall Understory

The new fast-casual spot will bear the name of Houston Tex-Mex royalty

Mama Ninfa’s Tacos y Tortas, a new fast-casual destination for tacos and tortas, will open at Downtown’s forthcoming underground food hall Understory.

The newest sibling for the Original Ninfa’s on Navigation is set to open next year inside the tunnels at the forthcoming development at Downtown’s Capitol Tower. Legacy Restaurants, the company that also owns Ninfa’s and Antone’s Famous Po’ Boys, is planning a major presence for Mama Ninfa’s in Houston. Over the next one or two years, four locations of the restaurant are set to open across Houston.

Ninfa’s executive chef Alex Padilla will oversee the menu of street tacos and tortas for Mama Ninfa’s. According to a press release, diners will be able to order Ninfa’s famous queso, salsas, tacos al carbon, and handmade tortillas in the new fast-casual spot. The Downtown location won’t serve booze, but forthcoming locations of Mama Ninfa’s will include a full bar and, of course, the famous Ninfaritas.

Understory is announcing new additions to its 35,000 square foot food hall pretty much daily. Yesterday, Eater reported that East Hampton Sandwich Company is plotting a location there, and in all, seven food stalls and a full-service restaurant are expected to open at Understory next year.

Mama Ninfa’s is set to debut at Understory in early 2019. Stay tuned for an official opening date.
