The countdown is officially on, there’s only three days left until James Beard award winner Chef Chris Shepherd launches One Fifth Mediterranean, and the restaurant is now taking reservations.
Shepherd is rounding out the half way mark in his “five restaurants in five years” goal with the September 1 debut of his third eatery focused on Mediterranean food. In the past two iterations, the restaurant at 1658 Westheimer Road highlighted food from Spain, Italy, and France for One Fifth Romance Languages (September 2017 to July 2018), and his first concept was a beef-eaters dream with One Fifth Steak (January to July 2017).
Photos posted to One Fifth’s Facebook page hint at mezze plates of pickled veggies, hummus, tzatziki, baba ghanoush, and pita bread made in a wood-fired oven, plus skewered meats and chicken drumsticks cooked over hot embers. Shepherd undoubtedly has some unconventional dishes up his sleeve, the man has been known to serve patrons shots of bone marrow and bolognese spiked with duck heart. Not to mention past signature dishes included “The Big Dog Tower” stacked high with seafood and charcuterie and “baller boards,” a four-foot-long plank of wood piled with different cuts of meat.
Stay tuned for more information on what exactly Shepherd will be serving, and in the meantime, snag a reservation here.
