Cacao & Cardamom, a confectioner that specializes in hand-painted chocolates with unique ingredients, has just opened its second location in Montrose.
The new outpost is located at 2013 West Gray next to the historic River Oaks Theatre. Proprietor Annie Rupani, who is of Pakistani descent, uses Asian spices, nuts, flowers, roots, herbs, and liqueurs in her handcrafted additive-free chocolates. She stocks more than 40 flavors like szechuan peppercorn, garam masala pistachio, and mango caramel, all of which have characterized the chocolate arsenal found in Cacao & Cardamom’s Galleria outpost since 2014. However in the new Montrose location, Rupani has added a 5-foot-tall gold plated chocolate fountain that will serve both dark chocolate and white chocolate with caramel — talk about luxe.
To coincide with the Montrose opening, Rupani created a new collection of flavors in collaboration with local businesses. A few of those include “HIVE Honey & Thyme” which uses a local honey reduction from HIVE Bee Farm paired with a milk chocolate and thyme infused ganache; “Cold Brew Coffee Crunch” with dark chocolate cold brew coffee ganache paired with a coffee bean nougatine, created with Java Pura Coffee Roasters; and a fig and malbec flavor with a malbec-infused dark chocolate ganache finished with cinnamon and fig jam, created with Nice Winery.
Cacao & Cardamom is open Monday through Thursday 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
