The Heights will soon have a new destination for tequila-spiked tiki cocktails in Tikila’s, a new bar set to open this spring.
A Facebook page created for the bar indicates that it will open at 2708 North Shepherd Drive, in the space formerly known as Buffalo Fred’s Ice House and Bar. Details on the menu are scarce at present, but as its name indicates, the bar will combine the island vibes and tropical, fruit-focused (and typically rum-based) classic cocktails of a tiki bar with tequila and other agave-based spirits.
When it opens, Tikila’s will be the newest addition to the city’s ridiculously strong tiki bar scene, joining Houston institution Lei Low, which opened in 2013, and Downtown newcomer Kanaloa, a “hidden oasis” that boasts more than 100 different types of rum. Perhaps it can also help meet the drinking needs of tiki enthusiasts who patronized the recently-departed Howie’s Tiki, which shuttered in November with plans to revamp into an Irish pub.
Eater has reached out to Tikila’s for more details, and the bio for its Instagram account shows that it will arrive sometime in “spring 2019.” Stay tuned for an update.
