Kata Robata tops the 100 Best Restaurants list
At an event on Thursday, Houston Chronicle restaurant critic Alison Cook unveiled her newly updated list of the city’s best restaurants, and Upper Kirby sushi favorite Kata Robata is on top. A host of usual suspects and buzzy newcomers — including Theodore Rex, Xochi, BCN Taste and Tradition, Tony’s, Indigo, UB Preserv, Squable, Himalaya, and Giacomo’s — rounded out the top ten.
The Bread Man has a new restaurant in the works
Tasos Katsaounis, the Houston baker known for his Bread Man Baking Company baked goods, now has plans to open a restaurant. According to CultureMap, Katsaounis’s White Elm Cafe Bakery is set to open next year at 14079 Memorial Drive. Katsaounis is joined by Chez Nous owners Scott Simonson and Stacy Crow Simonson in the project, along with former Field & Tides co-owner Chico Ramirez. Expect it to arrive in January 2020.
The Toasted Yolk heads to the Heights
Brunch favorite the Toasted Yolk has announced plans for a new Heights location. Per a press release, the restaurant will open at 4601 Washington Avenue, Suite 130, in December of this year. Expect plenty of egg dishes (as its name might indicate!), pancakes, and plenty of cocktails.
MasterChef’s casting in Houston
This weekend, casting agents from FOX’s MasterChef will be in Houston searching for the city’s most talented home chefs. The open call for contestants will be held on Saturday, October 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sheraton Suites on 2400 West Loop South, near the Galleria.
