Beloved Garden Oaks coffee shop Slowpokes has just debuted a new Upper Kirby outpost for local cold brew coffee and booze.
The coffee shop just opened at 2925 Richmond Avenue with a plethora of local coffee, tea, beer, and wine on deck, in addition to an expanded all-day menu of breakfast, flatbreads, empanadas, salads, sandwiches, and baked goods like churro donuts that the coffee shop can now accommodate with its larger space. Slowpokes operates on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on weekends 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
While across town in Katy, Memphis-style barbecue has just descended on Houston thanks to Corky’s BBQ. The Tennessee export just opened the doors to its first Texas location at 20455 Katy Freeway with many more planned for the Houston area including a soon-to-open Cypress location, plus outposts in Westchase, Downtown Houston, Tomball, the Woodlands, and on Navigation Road.
Memphis barbecue focuses on pork (as opposed to beef in Texas), so diners will find pork ribs and pulled pork in the spotlight, alongside brisket, chicken, and sides like barbecue beans, cole slaw, green beans, and mac ‘n’ cheese. Desserts on offer include fudge pie, pecan pie, brownies, and peach cobbler. Plus, this eatery has a full bar unlike many other barbecue joints with 50 types of bourbon and 20 beers on tap. The restaurant operates Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 12 a.m.; Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. with live music on deck.
