Awesome Bites Co., a Houston-born bakery known for its vegan, dairy-free, and soy-free treats, will open its first location at Sawyer Yards.

The health-focused bakery is set to open its doors at 2313 Edwards Street this spring, bringing a bounty of vegan baked goods and desserts that are free of dairy, soy, gluten, refined sugars, eggs, and nuts. A project of native Houstonian Jennifer Thai, Awesome Bites first began selling its treats at local farmers markets after Thai struggled to find snacks for her daughter with food allergies.

Thai’s famed oatmeal chocolate chip muffins are baked sans sugar, and sweetened with coconut, squash, sweet potatoes, apples, and pears. Vegan brownies and blondies made with black beans and chickpeas, respectively, are also on the menu, along with dairy-free ice cream served in gluten-free waffle cones. On the beverage side of the menu, Houston’s own Boomtown Coffee will provide the beans for nitro cold brew.

At Sawyer Yards, Awesome Bites Company joins a stacked line-up of dining options, including Poitín and Houston-born poke bowl spot Pokeology. In the coming months, the area will continue to boom with the addition of virtual golf bar Loft18 and the eventual arrival of Buffalo Bayou Brewing Company’s sprawling new location.

Awesome Bites Company is currently expected to open in April. Stay tuned for more details on its official opening date.
