An international chain for Korean shaved ice, Snowy Village, will open at the end of this month or early next in Asiatown.
As Eater previously reported, the dessert spot will debut at 9600 Bellaire Boulevard, Suite 103-A, becoming the first Snowy Village location in Houston. This 2,000-square-foot location will seat about 50 diners at high-tops, low-tops, and banquettes, and the interior design will feature exposed concrete walls and wood furnishings.
The dessert shop will serve up bingsu, or Korean shaved ice, topped with a number of ingredients like crushed Oreos, sweetened red beans, and fruit including mango, strawberry, blueberry, and more. It will also serve up Japanese fish-shaped pastries (known as taiyaki) that are filled with soft serve ice cream in matcha or ube flavors, egg custard, sweetened red beans, or savory fillings like Korean brisket and pizza toppings.
The owners decided to open a bingsu dessert shop after enjoying the dessert in Vancouver and noticing that for the plethora of boba tea joints and other types of Asian desserts represented in Houston proper, a shop devoted to bingsu was lacking.
Stay tuned for Snowy Village’s exact date of arrival. Its hours of operation will be Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Update: Snowy Village is now open in Houston. The bingsu shop hosted a soft opening over the weekend, and that soft opening and a 20% off all items deal will continue through May 5.
