Expect to see Dallas-based taqueria Velvet Taco popping up more in locations around Houston, starting with a new shop at 2001 N. Shepherd Drive in the Heights this fall. The Houston Business Journal reports that the offbeat taco chain is moving into a former Jack in the Box space located near the new Heights H-E-B. This will be the first drive-in Velvet Taco in Houston, with outdoor seating too.

That’s not all: Velvet Taco President Clay Dover told the publication that more locations are in the works (he was mum on the exact Houston locations).

“Houston is a great city, and as we begin to look at the areas around, we saw the site on Shepherd as a great opportunity to get people,” Dover told HBJ. “There’s a lot of development and growth going on there; there’s a lot of new restaurants that are (being built) along Shepherd.”

The Shepherd Drive location is expected to start serving up fish n’ chips tacos this October. Velvet Taco currently operates two restaurants in Houston, one on Washington Avenue and another in Montrose.
