Back in 2017, Dallas-based chain Shell Shack announced big expansion plans for Houston and those plans are still on. After opening up at 2412 Washington Avenue last fall for its first Houston location, the Houston Business Journal reports that Shell Shack recently broke ground in Katy at the corner of Interstate 10 and the Grand Parkway. This Katy seafood boil location was always part of the plan, and the massive restaurant set to open by early 2020 is one of eight Shell Shack hopes to plant in Houston.
“Once we get Katy done, [we’ll] turn around and start backing it up with two to three [restaurants] a year,” Shell Shack Houston’s Paul Castillo told HBJ.
Shell Shack isn’t the only Dallas-based seafood boil spot with Houston on its radar: Crab Station opened in Houston too. Of course, Houston has its own long-established shellfish traditions of its own, like Viet-Cajun crawfish.
