German Doner Kebab heads to Houston
Fast-casual kebab chain German Doner Kebab has set its sights on Houston. According to QSR, the Berlin-based chain is headed to North America in a big way in the coming months, with a Texas franchisee plotting 12 locations in Houston, Dallas, and Las Vegas that are set to open over the next two years. No addresses for the Houston-area locations have been announced just yet.
Two new restaurants land at IAH
George Bush Intercontinental Airport’s Terminal C-South is now home to two new from chef Nate Appleman. The first, a Tex-Mex eatery called El Premio, will serve “true Houston Tex-Mex” like skirt steak fajitas served with tortillas straight from El Tiempo Cantina and a quick-service counter that will offer customizable Tex-Mex bowls. The second restaurant, a pizza spot called Forno Magico, will sling Neapolitan-style pies, salads, pastas, and more Italian eats.
Emmanuel Chavez returns to Houston
Chef Emmanuel Chavez, who earned acclaim for his Brink Dining pop-ups, has returned to Houston. After moving to Seattle, the chef announced on Instagram that he was back in H-Town, also noting that he’s currently working on “a little project under tatemo.” It’s unclear exactly what that concept will be (he does note that it “revolves entirely on the integrity of home nixtamalized corn”) but expect it to involve a lot of tacos — Chavez has been teasing tons of tortilla-wrapped beauties in recent weeks.
