Fans of Ninfa’s won’t have to head all the way to Navigation for a plate of tacos once Mama Ninfa’s Tacos y Tortas makes its debut at Downtown food hall Understory.

The casual new taco destination is set to open its doors on Monday, August 12 inside Understory. There, it will occupy a 622 square foot space on the tunnel level, joining eateries like Filipino burger favorite Flip’n Patties, East Hampton Sandwich Company, Boomtown Coffee, and new cocktail bar Silver Lining. This is just the first of many outposts of Mama Ninfa’s that will likely hit Houston and beyond, with multiple standalone restaurants in the works

On the menu, six different taco options await, including tortillas stuffed with grilled redfish, skirt steak, and bacon-wrapped Gulf shrimp. As its name might indicate, carnitas, Cubano, barbacoa, and more tortas are also on the menu, served on bread from Houston’s own El Bolillo bakery. Of course, the famed Ninfaritas will also be flowing.

After its debut on August 12, Mama Ninfa’s will be open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 7 a.m. to midnight, Saturday from 9 a.m. to midnight, and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
