After more than two years in the works, much-lauded Chinese eatery Mala Sichuan Bistro has officially debuted its third location in Katy.

A rep tells Eater that the restaurant opened its doors last week at 23119 Colonial Parkway, bringing Sichuan classics that earned a James Beard Award nomination in 2017 to the Katy Asian Town development. It’s the third outpost for Mala, joining the Bellaire Boulevard original and a second restaurant in Montrose that opened in 2015.

For diners who are unfamiliar with Mala Sichuan Bistro’s dishes, frequently hailed as the city’s best Sichuan fare, it’s pretty much impossible to go wrong on the menu here. Standbys like mapo tofu and garlic eggplant are top-notch, as are the dan dan noodles and cumin lamb. It’s really best to bring a group to dine here, where you can split massive portions of all of the above, plus more shareable eats like chili oil dumplings and Peking duck.

Mala Sichuan Bistro is now open for lunch on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner from 5 p.m to 10 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the doors are open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays.
