It Looks Like Chef Hugo Ortega’s Picked a Name for His New Uptown Park Restaurant

Urbe could be en route to Uptown Park

Chef Hugo Ortega’s been tight-lipped about his plans for a new restaurant that will take over the space formerly occupied by Cafe Express in Uptown Park, but now it looks like the much-anticipated spot finally has a name: Urbe. In 2019, an entity connected with Ortega and Tracy Vaught’s H Town Restaurant Group filed for a trademark on the name, which means “city” in Spanish. A representative for Ortega confirmed that Urbe is a “working name,” but that it “could change” as the project progresses.

Local Foods expands to Austin

Now that they’ve earned a fully devoted sandwich following in Houston, Local Foods is headed to Austin this year. According to Eater Austin, the first ATX outpost of Local Foods is expected to open in a two-story space at 454 West Second Street sometime in late summer 2020.

Popular bakery SusieCakes opens a second Houston location

Cali-based sweet shop SusieCakes will open its second Houston location. Per a press release, the outpost at 1711 Dryden Road, inside the Texas Medical Center, will open on Thursday, January 16, bringing a new destination for decadent cupcakes to the area. SusieCakes will be open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
