Washington Avenue just scored a sweet new drinking destination in the Sugar Room, a fancy cocktail bar that doubles as a doughnut destination during the day.
A rep tells Eater that the Sugar Room opened its doors at 5120 Washington Avenue on Thursday, and it’s part of a major takeover that Dallas’s So Clutch group has planned for Houston’s bar scene. In addition to the Sugar Room’s plush, upscale vibe, the hospitality company is also planning to bring a sports bar called the Sporting Club to the Washington Corridor that will boast a 30-foot retractable roof, local brews, and a patio packed with games. So Clutch is also working on opening a nightclub in the area called Throne, but details on that project are pretty scarce at present.
As far as the cocktails are concerned, expect glitzy drinks garnished with gold, glitter, and more. The opening menu boasts creative libations like the Le Bichon, a mix of ultra-trendy butterfly pea tea, vodka, lemon, and “diamond dust,” along with the Jetsetter, which pairs gin, basil, cucumber, and ginger with spicy popping boba.
The Sugar Room will also house an outpost of Tout Suite sister bakery Sweet, which will sling everything from macarons and birthday cakes to tres leches pot de creme and late-night doughnuts, along with freshly pressed juices and coffee drinks that will be available until 2 a.m. every single day.
