In order to feed more citywide demand for its famed smoked turkey legs, beloved Third Ward restaurant The Turkey Leg Hut just opened a new food truck in the Galleria.
Fans can flock to The Galleria’s food truck park (2829 Chimney Rock Road) from Thursdays to Sundays, starting at 11 a.m. until as late as midnight on weekends, for its famous jumbo turkey legs stuffed with dirty rice and crawfish mac and cheese, along with Cajun seafood bowls.
Turkey Leg Hut’s expansion plans in the coming months include parking a presence at three forthcoming Third Ward spots — Savoy Urban Beer Garden, Daiquiri Hut, and Breakfast Hut. The idea is to cut down lines at its flagship restaurant on Almeda Road, which as anyone who has visited the Turkey Leg Hut during peak hours can attest, can get lengthy.
That busy location was the focal point of a truly dramatic legal battle before the holidays, when neighbors slapped Turkey Leg Hut with a bombshell lawsuit over its smokers. The owners fired back saying the suit was bogus. The nearby residents have since decided to “suspend” the suit, which claimed that the Turkey Leg Hut’s smokers were a neighborhood nuisance that pumped carcinogen-laden smoke into nearby homes.
