Tumble 22, an Austin hot chicken restaurant known for its seriously exacting method for applying super spicy sauce, is almost ready to open the doors to its first Houston location.

The restaurant is set to make its debut in the first week of December, bringing a new drive-in fried chicken option to the space at 10723 Louetta Road in Vintage Park. According to Eater Austin, Tumble 22 got its start as a food truck in 2017, building a loyal following before opening multiple permanent locations in the Capitol City.

The restaurant takes its name from the painstaking process used to apply the “cayenne and spice” coating that makes this yardbird so piquant. According to a press release, the chicken is tumbled in the spicy sauce precisely 22 times, which ensures that it’s evenly coated throughout. Spice levels range from the mild “wimpy” sauce to the mouth-searing “Cluck’n Hot.”

That spicy chicken is served on sandwiches or as tenders, along other options, alongside sides like mac and cheese and deviled eggs. The dessert menu is dominated with homemade pies, and a short cocktail list will also be on offer.

When Tumble 22 makes its debut, the restaurant will be open for dine-in, drive-thru, and curbside pickup service from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. For hospitality workers that are in search of a new gig, the restaurant is currently staffing up ahead of its debut.
