After five years of slinging some of the city’s best doughnuts, Morningstar Coffee and Donuts has announced plans to permanently close its doors at the end of the month.

The shop announced the awful news in an Instagram post on Thursday night, noting that it will sling its final rounds of dough on Monday, December 28. Opened in the Heights in mid-2016 by coffee whiz David Buehrer, Morningstar quickly became a Houston breakfast destination thanks to its creative pastries, expertly brewed espresso drinks, and excellent brunch dishes.

“We understand this is sad news but we hope you can find joy in knowing you all helped cultivate an amazing community for so many years,” the post reads. “We made it so far and are so thankful for the support we’ve received.”

Fortunately, Morningstar fans still have a couple of weeks to swing by the shop before it departs Houston’s dining scene for good.
