Over the weekend, a hoodie-wearing thief broke into Frank’s Americana Revival in River Oaks and stole cash, booze, and more.

A statement from the restaurant indicates that the robbery took place over the weekend, and the as-yet-unidentified thief stole plenty of cash, bottles of booze, a tool box, and an iPad from Frank’s after smashing a door to get inside while the restaurant was closed. The thief also ransacked the restaurant’s office and liquor cabinets, leaving a giant mess for staff to clean up.

Robberies have been a major issue for Houston restaurants over the past year, even before coronavirus hit. Last November, bar owner and restaurateur Bobby Heugel criticized Houston mayor Sylvester Turner over the city’s response to what he estimated were more than a hundred restaurant robberies in 2019 alone.

Like the rest of Houston’s restaurants, Frank’s has been struggling amid judge Lina Hidalgo’s county-wide order requiring all restaurants to close their doors to help stem the coronavirus pandemic. Fortunately, the damage to the restaurant was not major, and Frank’s will be able to stay open for carryout and curbside service.
