Gilded New Restaurant Turner’s Revives Throwback Dishes, Like $78 Lobster Thermidor

Restaurateur Benjamin Berg’s vision for his newest venture involved dover sole and bone-in ribeye, gilded gold leaf ceilings, and Ralph Lauren pinstriped walls. That’s what diners will find at the very luxe, old-world inspired new restaurant from Berg Hospitality Group, Turner’s, which is opening tonight, March 6, for dinner.

“The classic menu combined with a rich, traditional aesthetic and style of service complement each other to create the club-like atmosphere I wanted to convey,” Berg said in a statement. “Inspired by a bygone era of society dining and entertainment, we really took our time designing every detail for this concept, and I am really proud of the end result.”

Turner’s interiors at 1800 Post Oak Boulevard really channel the look of a supper club, from a mahogany baby grand piano for nightly performances to a black marble bar.

Chef Robert Del Grande is focusing on what he calls “heritage-type” dishes, defined as king crab terrine and escargot for appetizers, and for dinner, chicken and dumplings, Scottish salmon “pot roast,” and an “Ambassador’s Meatloaf.” The menu leans into luxury, with the prices to match: there’sa $78 Lobster Thermidor, $78 prime bone-in ribeye, $68 Dover sole, and $82 Wagyu filet mignon.

The wine list tops out at $10,500 (the cheapest bottle is $58). Lead bartender Curtis Harwood under the supervision of beverage director Kara Slife will sling classic cocktails like Negronis and Old Fashioned.

Hours of operation are Tuesday to Saturday with the bar opening at 4 p.m. and dinner service beginning at 5 p.m.

Berg Hospitality Group, which also operates B&B Butchers & Restaurant in Houston and Fort Worth, and B.B. Lemon Washington and B.B. Lemon Montrose, had a very busy year in 2019. That’s when two-in-one Italian-American spot B.B. Italia Kitchen & Bar and B.B. Pizza To Go opened, along with a reinvented The Annie at Galleria.
