Rakkan Ramen, a Japanese chain known for its vegetable-based broths, will open its doors in Houston next year.
Permits filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation indicate that Rakkan will occupy a 1,681 square foot space at 600 North Shepherd Drive, Suite 515, and construction is set to begin early next year. It’s possibly the first of multiple Rakkan Ramen outposts in the works — last year, the chain announced via its website that it would open as many as five locations in Houston.
Rakkan Ramen made its debut in the U.S. market in Los Angeles in 2017, when it opened an outpost in the city’s Little Tokyo neighborhood. Outposts in Redondo Beach and Santa Monica followed. According to Eater LA, the shop is known for its flavorful “umami” vegetarian broths, with options like soy sauce, miso, and tomato on the menu. There’s also the pearl ramen, served with a broth that’s made with “specialized Japanese rock salt” and white soy sauce.
Construction on Rakkan’s first Houston location is set to be completed in March 2021. Stay tuned for more details on the chain’s opening date and additional locations.
