A quirky new anime-themed restaurant that serves ramen 24 hours a day is set to debut in the Heights this weekend.
Shokku’s Vegas location is known for an array of cheeky dishes served in an atmosphere chock full of anime, J-Pop, and video game references, like the Super Saiyan Nachos, made with crispy dumpling skin, kimchi, pork chashu, and Japanese mayo. Other dishes include oxtail ramen, dumplings, kimchi fried rice, vegetarian ramen, and build-your-own noodle bowls with scratch-made broth and house spices.
One of Shokku’s most famous dishes is the Shinigami — which literally means “death bringer.” The extra-spicy ramen is topped with pork chashu, soy eggs, chicken karaage, naruto, mushrooms, and other veggies, and a house-made seasoning that measures over 4 million Scoville units.
Chef Louross Edralin, who diners might know from his stint on season 4 of the reality TV show Hell’s Kitchen, also plans to put a Houston spin on the menu at the new Heights location, with dishes like a barbecue brisket ramen bowl served with crunchy potato fries, cucumber pickles and pickled onions, and Tonkotsu pork broth enhanced with barbecue seasoning.
For the its few weeks, Shokku Ramen will be open 5-11 p.m., with plans to expand to 24-hour service later this year. Scope out the full menu and more details here.
