A boutique Oregon-based coffee bar that serves up non-alcoholic Irish coffees and cinnamon-tinged mochas will open its third Houston-area location next month in Webster near Baybrook Mall.
Black Rock Coffee Bar, purveyor of premium roasted coffees and other drinks, will open at 702 Bay Area Boulevard in mid-July. It’ll join locations that opened in 2020 in Katy and City Square West.
Black Rock, which was founded in Portland in 2008, posits itself as a neighborhood coffee joint. According to a press release, one of the coffee shop’s core missions is to provide opportunities for young people to learn how to lead, run a business, and develop people skills. The company is also active in the communities where it has cafes — CEO Jeff Hernandez told Paper City earlier this year that the company aims to hire magnetic baristas who “live to make a positive impact on every person that visits our stores.”
In addition to premium hot and iced coffee drinks, Black Rock also serves up smoothies, high-quality teas, and drinks meant to give coffee lovers an extra jolt of energy, including a beverage that includes a whopping six shots of espresso. Black Rock also has a subscription program that allows customers to get select roasts delivered to their home in the form of beans, grounds, and even k-cups.
It’s likely that Black Rock’s entree to Houston is not yet complete — though locations are already open in Austin and Dallas, the company has announced plans to open several more shops in Texas in coming years. Stay tuned for an exact opening date for the Baybrook Mall outpost.
