Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream Now Open in CityCentre

Houston’s ice cream boom continues. Cult fave Ohio-based ice cream purveyor Jeni’s has officially opened its second scoop shop in the Houston area, this one at 801 Town and Country Boulevard in CityCentre. The shop, which joins a Heights location on 19th Street, brings two new cake-flavored ice creams to Houston, Buttercream Birthday Cake and the limited edition Wedding Cake. Jeni’s recently went viral when their collaboration with Dolly Parton — on a strawberry pretzel flavored ice cream — caused fans to crash the Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream website.

Hospitality group behind Loch Bar and Ouzo Bay to open restaurant in Montrose Collective

Atlas Restaurant Group, the Maryland-based company behind River Oaks District’s Ouzo Bay and Loch Bar, will open a restaurant in the soon-to-be-completed Montrose Collective, at 888 Westheimer Boulevard. The new restaurant, which will focus on Italian food, is expected to open in Spring of 2022, joining five other restaurants, including Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, in the new development.

Pearland citizens seek to change the city’s status as a “semi-dry” community

A group of Pearland citizens is calling for an election to loosen restrictions on who can sell alcohol in the Houston suburb, according to Community Impact. The Pearland Entertainment and Beverage Coalition is trying to gather 15,000 signatures by the end of June in order to get a measure put onto the community’s November ballot that will allow non-food business to also sell alcohol. Pearland is currently considered a “damp” community — restaurants and other food-oriented businesses can sell alcoholic beverages, but only if they generate over 51% of their revenue from food sales.
