Houston heat is relentless, and so is the kick of spice that comes from a chicken sandwich slathered in peppery, Nashville-style sauce. To address this problem, local favorite Mico’s Hot Chicken has come up with a decidedly creative solution that involves two massive scoops of ice cream.

The latest offering from Mico’s, where the chicken ranges in spice level from “no heat” to “ultra hot,” brings together its wildly popular spicy chicken breast and two scoops of vanilla ice cream on a butter-toasted brioche bun. “I saw the idea somewhere on social media and thought it was so crazy that I had to give it a try,” owner Kimico Frydenlund told Eater. “To our surprise, we actually liked it!” Perhaps not surprisingly, Frydenlund says that actually eating the sandwich can be seriously messy, and that you “definitely need both hands.”

Even though it may seem a little off-putting, this is a combination that totally makes sense. Hot chicken is spicy, and ice cream is cooling — seems like a match made in heaven. Still, on social media, reactions to the ice-cream-laden sandwich were decidedly mixed. “My mind says hell naw, but I’m quite intrigued,” wrote one commenter, while others mused on the extreme stomachache that one might expect after combining super-spicy chicken and dairy-based ice cream.

No word yet on how long this offering will be part of the menu at Mico’s, so folks that are seriously intrigued by this spicy, melty combo should probably plan to hit the Heights fried chicken favorite sooner rather than later.
