Almost every single craft cocktail bar in Houston will make you a Mint Julep whenever you want one. But bartenders are muddling mint and pouring bourbon more than ever this Kentucky Derby weekend. Here are nine places offering great variations of the iconic Southern drink for you to have in hand when the race kicks off today at 5:24 p.m. And — bonus — some of them even have a Derby-related deal to offer.

Dish Society’s expansive patio at the new La Centerra has a Derby day deal on the Texas Julep, a refreshing muddled concoction of 1835 Texas Whiskey, fresh mint from the herb garden and cane sugar. If you're wearing a floppy hat or seersucker, it's just $8. Of course you can always go top shelf and get the $15 version with Garrison Brothers Texas Straight Bourbon.

All weekend long, beverage manager Kimberly Paul is serving Mint Juleps made with High West Double Rye in classic Mint Julep cups.

Alba Huerta, Julep's owner, has won dozens of accolades for her cocktail mixing, and her Julep made the cover of Garden and Gun magazine. This is the Julep to have in Houston. Julep carts will be rolling through the patio all day and the race will be showing live, starting at 5:24 p.m. Bonus: an hourly raffle for a julep set, complete with cups, straws, recipes and all the tools.

Kiran's Restaurant & Bar

All day Saturday May 2 at this Indian restaurant standby, lead bartender Gregg Alston will be making the classic Mint Julep recipe with a couple dashes of orange and walnut bitters. The rim of the glass is dressed with crushed candied walnuts, orange bitters and a glassed mint leaf.

Reserve 101 is teaming up with Maker's Mark on Derby Day, to make Mint Juleps with Maker's 46, which is aged a bit longer inside barrels containing seared French oak staves to create bolder, more complex flavors – while eliminating the bitterness that usually comes with whiskies that are aged longer. You can also choose the bar's first-of-its-kind Garrison Brothers single barrel straight Texas bourbon from its award-winning craft distillery in Hye, Texas.
