For those looking to abstain from dairy and other animal products, who won't taste a morsel of anything that once had parents or who are just seeking a pre-summer menu before the months of pool parties and cookouts: Here's a list of local offerings that prove that going vegan doesn't have to be boring. Last week we asked: Where are Houston's best vegan dishes? And several readers wrote in mentioning everything from vegan tacos to vegan Frito pies.

For an ever-rotating list of tasty vegan options, head to this pop-up cafe at the Eastside Urban Harvest Farmers Market. Owner Stephanie Hoban is there every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. serving up vegan tacos, sandwiches, wraps, and sweets. Look for a food truck to roll out this summer.

This South Union food store doubles as a vegetarian deli. It was selling great kale salads before they became a "Thing" at fancy, high-end establishments in town. Look for the vegan offerings, including an avocado po-boy.

It's a vegan restaurant in a small house in Midtown/Montrose--so don't pass it up when looking for it. Although it's gourmet vegan, the prices are surprisingly reasonable. And the hemp and sage burger is delicious, even for a carnivore.

It's one of the few vegan spots in that area and will satisfy an authentic Asian cuisine craving. It had us at asparagus soup, but but the tofu and the soy "pork" rolls are great, too.
